Kevin M. McKee, M.S.

Kevin M. McKee, President of AFSS, has a sincere passion for educating people regarding the requirements of effective exercise and natural nutrition.  The desire to improve his ability as a teacher and fitness instructor led him to advance his education in the field of human biology and exercise science.

Kevin has a B.S. in human biology from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay where he selected courses emphasizing exercise science, nutrition, and human development.  With the desire to learn more about the response of the human body to the stress of exercise, Kevin pursued graduate studies at Northern Michigan University.  There he completed an M.S. in exercise science while maintaining a teaching graduate assistantship.

While questioning the effects of the widely accepted and trendy methods of exercise, it became quite clear that many of these exercise protocols were not effective and the cumulative effects likely dangerous, particularly in the long-term.  Kevin’s interest in strength training led him to complete a research project evaluating the influence of slow-speed, high-intensity strength training on several health-related components.  He is convinced that this method of exercise will permit people to safely improve their health and well-being without compromising their safety or long-term health.

Kevin also maintains a “Certified Fitness Clinician” certification from the International Association of Resistance Trainers (I.A.R.T.).  Aware of the more widely known certifications, Kevin chose the I.A.R.T. program due to the emphasis on properly performed strength training, individual exercise prescription, and the de-emphasis on potentially hazardous “aerobic” steady state activities for exercise purposes.

Kevin enjoys spending time with his wife Celia and daughter Terese, and participating in most outdoor activities.  He believes that his focus on faith, family and an active lifestyle improves his quality of life and in turn helps him to best serve others. (back to top)

Lanan R. Dixon, P.T.

Lanan graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a B.S. in Physical Therapy in 1994.  She was on the Dean’s List several semesters and has been a practicing physical therapist since her graduation.  Her 12 years of P.T. experience has consisted of inpatient acute care at local hospitals, outpatient orthopedic therapy, outpatient neurological therapy, geriatrics, and chronic pain treatment.  While her experience has given her the opportunity to work in a variety of clinical settings, she has chosen to specialize in outpatient orthopedics and chronic spine pain management at Appleton Fitness, Spine & Sport, Inc.

Lanan is currently expanding her knowledge of manual therapy and believes that the non-invasive combination of hands-on therapy and properly performed active, intensive therapeutic exercise is an excellent way to improve function, reduce or eliminate pain, and produce lasting results.  She plans to obtain certification as an Orthopedic Specialist through the APTA in the future and has been taking continuing education courses on the knee, shoulder, spine, and geriatric orthopedics.

When not at work, Lanan loves spending time with her husband, two daughters, and three rescued dogs.  They live an active lifestyle and enjoy camping, kayaking, tennis, and participating in school activities. (back to top)

Testimonial

“For several years bowling, golfing, and repeated lifting at home or work would trigger low back and sciatic pain. After many unsuccessful attempts at treatment, I finally tried a spine-strengthening program at AFSS. It has been very effective and it only takes 30-minutes a week! Now I rarely have discomfort and when I do, it is much less painful and subsides much faster. I recommend AFSS to anyone in need of spine or total body conditioning.”
